I spent some time photographing at The Yorkshire Ballet Summer School. The girls aged between 9-18 - many
had travelled from across the globe to be taught by some of the most prestigious dancers andformer dancers
in an intense one week ballet school. While most children can't wait to have their summers off, these young
dancers live and breath this world, and are some of the most dedicated and determined young girls you could
meet. Many will spend the entire summer going from school to school in order to achieve their dreams.

However, I wanted to capture the in-between moments. As these young girls strive for perfection and a career
which is so often short lived, I wanted to find someone truth and humanity which is inevitably invisible on
stage behind the costumes and perfect choreography. After all, most of these girls are really just children,
which can be obscured by their ambition and talent.
